Weight loss peptide have been around for 10+ years. 

It belongs to a class of drugs known as the GLP-1 receptor agonist. It works by mimicking a hormone in your body that is released after you eat.

Medical Weight Loss Medication is recommended for adults who have a body mass index (BMI) of 25kg/m2 or greater.

It is also recommended for those who have tried to lose weight through diet and exercise but have been unsuccessful. 

In general:

• 18 years or older
• Struggling With Obesity or Overweight
• Struggling With Previous Weight Loss Attempts
• BMI 25 or higher
• HTN or HLD
• Commitment to Lifestyle Changes

The following individuals should NOT use medical weight loss medications:

• Endocrine tumors (MEN 2) or if someone in your family had these tumors
• Eye disease, vision problems
• Gallbladder disease
• History of depression or mental health disease
• History of pancreatitis
• Kidney disease
• Stomach or intestine problems
• Suicidal thoughts, plans, or attempt; a previous suicide attempt by you or a family member
• Thyroid cancer or if someone in your family had thyroid cancer.
• An unusual or allergic reaction to semaglutide, other medications, foods, dyes, or preservatives
• Pregnant or trying to get pregnant
• Breast-feeding

Semaglutide is a medication that has emerged as a potentially effective option for weight loss in individuals who meet specific criteria. This is because it reduces appetite, slows down the emptying of the stomach, and increases feelings of fullness.  

This hormone triggers the pancreas to release the right amount of insulin when glucose levels are high, helping move sugar from the blood into other body tissues where it is used for energy.

Semaglutide is administered once a week via a subcutaneous injection. There are currently 2 options available to patients. In office injections done by our medical staff weekly or at home injections performed by the patient after an education session on how to treat yourself at home.

We start semaglutide at a low dose to minimize any side effects.

Dose adjustments are considered as needed and progression with your weight loss journey.  

Semaglutide should be used under the guidance of a licensed healthcare professional, and the benefits and risks should be carefully evaluated on an individual basis. Clinical trials have demonstrated that when combined with lifestyle modifications, significant weight loss can be achieved during treatment and after.

Weight loss results vary from person to person, studies have shown that Semaglutide can help to produce significant weight loss in overweight and obese individuals. 

As with all weight loss programs, it is imperative that lifestyle changes take place. You must implement proper nutrition and exercise for anything to work. 

Most people begin seeing results in their appetite decreasing in the first month. Keep in mind that the weight you are trying to lose did not come on overnight and you will not lose it overnight. Successful participants begin to see results around 8-12 weeks provided they are also making lifestyle changes.

Depending on your weight loss goals and how well you make changes in your lifestyle nutrition and exercises Pure Image Laser and Spa does not want Semaglutide to be a long term medication for you. We will work with you to achieve long term lifestyle changes that include proper nutrition, exercise, and a positive mindset.

The most commonly reported side effects of Semaglutide for weight loss are constipation, diarrhea, nausea, heartburn, and vomiting.

Side effects reduce over time as you learn new lifestyle changes of reduced caloric content and fat intake.Your care team is well equipped to manage any side effects you experience and most don't require medical attention.

Semaglutide should not be taken in combination with any other GLP-1 receptor agonists or medications that increase GLP-1 receptor activity. Any medications you are taking with Semaglutide should be disclosed with our office and also discussed with your Primary Health Care provider.
